“Ma seul amour” performed by Ensemble Merveill
The Ensemble Merveill performs Ma seul amour by Briquet (15th century).
Ma seul amour by Briquet is one of the works included in our commissioned program for the 600th anniversary of the Privilege of the Union of Pamplona (2023). This piece demonstrates the international level that the musical court attained during this crucial moment in the history of Navarra. Not much is known about Briquet, besides that some identify it with Jean de Villeroye and that he flourished in the 15th century.

I had long dreamed of creating my ensemble with wonderful musicians from the Iberian Peninsula. Another dream was dedicating it to a repertoire I adore: the music of the Iberian courts of the 14th and 15th centuries. This project has been the result of that dream. It’s such a joy to work hand in hand with these amazing people, who are also exceptional musicians. The entire experience, from the process to the concert itself, has been an absolute delight—this is how I love being a musician.
Although we debuted with our first concert in 2023, this is the first video we’ve made, taking advantage of one of our rehearsals in Cuenca. Without any other intention than to start building some material to share with program organizers. Naturally, some of our regular members are missing here: Víctor Sordo Vicente (tenor) and Enrique Pastor Morales (lute, vielle, and gittern).
